Missing for half a century

Chicago–Son and daughter of Lydia M. Quiles were found after having been missing for over 50 years. Nelson, 52 Nelly, 51 were reunited with their terminally ill mother with the help of social media. The kidnapping happened when the children were under the age of two by their biological father. They were relocated to Boston, MA, where they lived a life of horror. The oldest son, Nelson describes his life with his father and stepmother as a “life of terror” after enduring years of physical and mental abuse.

Lydia M. Quiles remarried and had five other children after the tragic disappearance of Nelson and Nelly Laboy. Lydia was later diagnosed with Colon Cancer in 2005, and she feared that she would die without ever finding her children. In 2009, the nephew of Lydia took to social media to search for her children. Surprisingly, the son of Nelson was found, and through a friend request a reunion was executed. Nelson and Nelly raced to Chicago to see their mother for the very first time. Tragically, Lydia past away a few weeks later.

Nelson and Nelly Laboy still keep in contact with their siblings through social media and weekly phone calls. Nelson says that he is saddened that his time was limited with his mother, but says, ”Even though it was for a short time it was enough time and it filled my empty space in my heart. That was the love I was missing all my life.”

Persecution of homosexuals

Man thrown off roof by ISIS  "The torment of gay Syrians"       By: Magdalena Bush             B eing a gay man in Syria seems to be detrimental in an already destructive environment. ISIS, an Islamic militant group whose main goal is to overtake the Muslims, constantly expresses their beliefs through horrific atrocities. The recent development of tormenting and murders of homosexual men is just one example of severe and unorthodox behavior. CNN reports , " Victim brutally killed because he was accused of being gay." Persecuted   The report on the killings of homosexuals in Syria goes on to discuss the abuse and fleeing of gay men who fear for their lives. ISIS seems to take belief to the extreme, but tormenting by a community who treats homosexuals like the plague has proven to be a common problem in Syria.
